Does Hillary want to destroy the Constitution?
This NY Sun piece outlines how Senator Clinton is attempting to undermine the powers of the very office she seeks. She and Senator Byrd are pushing for a resolution to undo Congressional approval of the War in Iraq- and in the process not only spit on the Constitution but try to tear it apart.
War is the responsibility of the Commander in Chief. Once Congress authorizes war it then needs to get out of the way. But Senator Clinton does not grasp this simple fact. Working against Bush concerning Iraq is bad and misguided as it is but this is a clear attempt to weaken the presidency itself. If the presidency is weakened- then the Congress and the Supreme Court must be weakened in proportion- which I’m all for as the less power that is centralized in Washington, DC the better. But if only the president were weak he (or, in the unthinkably horrible case that Clinton becomes president, she) would be pushed around by the preening hacks on both sides in Congress.
The piece notes that “this is Senator Clinton at her worst.” It is also Clinton at her most dangerous. However, I don’t think this will occur. Bush will veto the legislation and Congress has enough wise members to prevent the veto being overridden. But even if it were overridden the Supreme Court is finally tilted away from the dark liberal forces that once held it in the vice-like grip of a terminal disease. In other words, Democrats can keep slamming themselves against the immovable object that is George W. Bush and, in the process, hopefully kill their party as a viable force in American politics.
