Mr. O’Bryant,
I was so enthusiastic about your column that I had to go to this blog after reading it. You simply must know how effective it is.
I cannot tell you how much every word you said reads like my own diatribes about liberals vs. The Bible. Thank you for having the courage to say what all true Bible believing people know. You simply cannot believe that the Bible is God’s word, and condone abortion.
Your wording, I believe, was precise and your points were powerful. Keep up the good work.
Respectfully,
Edward Rowden

It would serve everyone well to remember that when we go to the polls in November 2008, we will not go to elect a pastor or pope for the Church of the United States of America.
We will go to elect a president, an executor of the supreme law of the land, which is The Constitution of the United States and not the Bible.
Once the president-elect is ready to be sworn into office, he or she will take the following oath according to the The Constitution (Article II, Section 1, Clause 8): “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” (Traditionally the president-elect’s hand is placed upon a Bible when taking the oath — but that is a tradition and not a Constitutional requirement; the same is true of ending the oath with the words “so help me God”.)
Another point which should be made is that Article VI, Section 3 of The Constitution states that “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.”
A presidential candidate’s faith tradition is a matter best left between that person and his God. The candidate’s understanding of the issues in light of our Constitution is the main issue.
