Does Hillary want to destroy the Constitution?

by Jeff OBryant

This NY Sun piece outlines how Senator Clinton is attempting to undermine the powers of the very office she seeks. She and Senator Byrd are pushing for a resolution to undo Congressional approval of the War in Iraq- and in the process not only spit on the Constitution but try to tear it apart.

War is the responsibility of the Commander in Chief. Once Congress authorizes war it then needs to get out of the way. But Senator Clinton does not grasp this simple fact. Working against Bush concerning Iraq is bad and misguided as it is but this is a clear attempt to weaken the presidency itself. If the presidency is weakened- then the Congress and the Supreme Court must be weakened in proportion- which I’m all for as the less power that is centralized in Washington, DC the better. But if only the president were weak he (or, in the unthinkably horrible case that Clinton becomes president, she) would be pushed around by the preening hacks on both sides in Congress.

The piece notes that “this is Senator Clinton at her worst.” It is also Clinton at her most dangerous. However, I don’t think this will occur. Bush will veto the legislation and Congress has enough wise members to prevent the veto being overridden. But even if it were overridden the Supreme Court is finally tilted away from the dark liberal forces that once held it in the vice-like grip of a terminal disease. In other words, Democrats can keep slamming themselves against the immovable object that is George W. Bush and, in the process, hopefully kill their party as a viable force in American politics.

John Bolton displays why he should still be UN Ambassador

by Jeff OBryant

You’ve got to love John Bolton (unless you’re a liberal, that is). He tells it like it is- and knows that the U.N. is collection of anti-American no-accounts that is in serious need of complete reform.

Bush made the best possible decision in nominating him as Ambassador to the U.N. and it is a sad thing that Democrats in Congress lacked the wisdom to support his nomination. Fortunately, Bush was at least was able to ram Bolton’s Ambassadorship down their throats for 16 months in a recess appointment- and indeed should make all his appointments thus in order to avoid liberal obstruction.

This piece from CNSNews.com reports on Bolton’s acceptance of the 2007 Bradley Prize - for the award of which he humorously thanks Senators Lincoln Chafee and Chris Dodd as well as North Korea, Syria, and Iran.

Common sense from Fred Thompson

by Jeff OBryant

The more I read about Fred Thompson (like this piece), the more I like him. He strikes me as a wise man, a compassionate man, and good man. I don’t believe there will ever be another Gipper so I’m not going to compare Thompson with Reagan. But I must admit that Thompson has so far impressed me.

An honest plea for help

by Jeff OBryant

Hoshyar Zebari, the foreign minister of Iraq, writes in this Washington Post piece asking the international community to not “abandon us.” He lays out the case that, despite the bad news of suicide attacks that dominate the international press, Iraq has made real progress. He then goes on to note that despite this progress Iraq is not yet ready to go it alone.

He writes:

“Those calling for withdrawal may think it is the least painful option, but its benefits would be short-lived. The fate of the region and the world is linked with ours. Leaving a broken Iraq in the Middle East would offer international terrorism a haven and ensure a legacy of chaos for future generations. Furthermore, the sacrifices of all the young men and women who stood up here would have been in vain.”

Eloquent and true. Will the Democrats heed Zebari’s counsel and stand by his plea for continued support or will they continue to push for abandoning the Iraqis and ignoring their plight? Will the war protestors and “peace” activists continue to demand that Iraq be allowed to descend into the chaos and bloodbath that Zebari knows will come should his country loose our support? Of course they will- but fortunately we have a real leader in the White House that won’t let America abandon its commitments on his watch. God bless President Bush and our troops fighting to help Zebari and his people.

The facts surrounding “Mission Accomplished”

by Jeff OBryant

Don Surber’s What Bush did not – and did – say is an excellent piece. It really illustrates well the fact that war is difficult and that you have to be committed to success to win.

I also learned something that I did not know before- Bush did not actually say “Mission Accomplished.” That was only on the banner behind him. Revisiting Bush’s words on that day, Surber shows that Bush knew all along the fight would be long and hard.

If only the Democrats had his vision, his fortitude, and his determination rather than their blindness, their feebleness, and their lack of will.

Harry Reid: Wrong!

by Jeff OBryant

The Seattle Post Intelligencer reports that one Iraqi neighborhood has been taken back from al-Qaida terrorists. But how can that be? Harry Reid has already pronounced that we’ve lost. Guess the US troops fighting in Iraq did not hear Reid- or more likely they decided to ignore the white-flag waving non-leader of the Democrats in the Senate who has no military experience whatsoever.

The article also outlines what it will be like if Read and his fellow quitters in Congress get their way. So let us hope cooler – and wiser - heads prevail.

More liberal idiocy

by Jeff OBryant

This Pierce County Herald article perfectly outlines why the Left is so backwards. The Legislature’s Joint Finance Committee voted to stop denying food stamps to deadbeat parents and to the unemployed who refuse to get job training.

It’s not governments business to feed people- it never has been and it never will be – despite the sad fact that current system does just that. But to take hard-earned money out of one persons pocket and put it into someone else’s who refuses to get job training (which is free!) and/or does not pay their child support is utterly inane. If you have to be generous with other peoples money, then at least give the food stamps to the child whose deadbeat parent is not meeting their responsibility – not to the deadbeat.

As Rep. Scott Suder, R-Abbotsford, said “deadbeat parents will laugh all the way to the grocery store.”

And the working people that barely can make ends meet will continue to struggle as government steals money out of their paycheck to give to those who won’t work. Liberal La-La land at its finest!

Our nation needs more men – and fathers – like Robert Derga

by Jeff OBryant

This Washington Times piece makes one wonder about the anti-war left and what their response would be concerning men like Robert Derga.

Derga lost his son, Marine Cpl. Dustin A. Derga, in Iraq. While meeting with the president, the bereaved father gave Bush a pin that he had used to write letters to his son. Derga hoped the president would use the pin when vetoing the Democrats reckless bill that would establish a timetable for withdrawal. To Derga’s surprise, Bush did indeed use the pin. Strongly believing that we need to finish the job in Iraq and do it right, Derga said “we have given the ultimate sacrifice in terms of our sons and if we can still stand in the trenches with the president and support him, why can’t the rest of the nation do it?”

An excellent question. I think the answer is their utter blindness to reality. But who can say? One wonders if liberal “reasoning” can ever be understood or explained.

Remember Robert Derga – and all those who have lost family in the war – in your thoughts and prayers.

Go St. Lucia!

by Jeff OBryant

St. Lucia recently restored ties with Taiwan after severing ties with China. I love it! It must really stick in the Chinese craw that a tiny island snubbed the most populace nation on earth. It would not be funny except for the fact that China’s government needs to grow up and get out of the communism and censorship business. Liberty, not government control, is the way of all responsible nations.

When China frees Tibet, when China relinquishes claims to Taiwan, when China allows a free and open press, when China ceases to patrol the web for “dangerous” opinions is when all nations should recognize China as a great nation. Until then, Taiwan should arm itself to the teeth with hundreds of nuclear warheads and all other nations should ostracize China from the world community.

Ouin Hillyer’s “Out of the Mainstream” is just too good to pass up. It has 16 points and I just can’t pick my favorite. A real “must read.”

Veto moves Iraqis one step further away from Democrat-planned genocide

by Jeff OBryant

According to this Brietbart report, Bush vetoed the Democrats irresponsible and artificial troop withdrawal plan.

“This is a prescription for chaos and confusion and we must not impose it on our troops,” Bush said, adding that the bill would “mandate a rigid and artificial deadline” for troop pullouts, and “it makes no sense to tell the enemy when you plan to start withdrawing.”

But Democrats can’t seem to grasp this simple fact. Now defeated, they are reduced to issuing hollow threats. Nancy Pelosi said “the president wants a blank check,” but “the Congress is not going to give it to him.” She went on to say that Congress would work with him to find common ground, but how can someone seeking victory and others seeking defeat find such ground? No, the president is just going to have to run over them if we hope to succeed in Iraq. He has no choice- and fortunately as Commander in Chief he has the power as outlined in the Constitution to do it.

A threatening Joe Biden gets a veto rammed down his throat

by Jeff OBryant

Speaking of the president and the Democrats meddlesome and irresponsible troop withdrawal plan, “Thoughtless” Joe Biden claims he’s going to “shove it down his throat.” His threat - which I’m just dying to find out how he plans to make it a reality without the necessary votes to override a presidential veto– was caught on tape by C-Span and is found here on The Politico Blog.

But the president did veto the legislation- so it looks like Biden is the one with something shoved down his throat. I’m afraid it’s so, Joe.

Now Conservatives waver on the War

by Jeff OBryant

In this editorial piece in Investor’s Business Daily we learn that it is not only the Democrats that fail to grasp the importance of staying the course in Iraq. There are conservatives also that seek to help the liberals waive the white flag of surrender.

Conservatives William F. Buckley Jr. and Senator Chuck Hagel have made some irresponsible comments concerning the Iraq war. But this editorial sets the record straight.

We cannot surrender in Iraq. We cannot give up. We cannot allow another genocide – which is certain to occur if we abandon Iraq. And that must not happen. We must stay the course and we must win. We’ve won harder fights and made greater sacrifices – so no excuse exists to surrender now - or ever.

Half-baked

by Jeff OBryant

At least half the Democratic hopefuls are wantonly blind to the threat we face today. According to this Front Page Magazine piece, when asked “Do you believe there is such a thing as a Global War On Terror,” candidates Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama, Bill Richardson, and Christopher Dodd raised their hands. John Edwards, Joe Biden, Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel kept their hands down.

This staggers the mind! Edwards goes on to explain the reasons for his point of view but he does nothing to diminish the feeling the he just doesn’t get it.

I don’t like any of the candidates the Democrats have picked. They should beg Zell Miller – who understands and grasps the dangers we face – to run for them. But at least half of their offering would lead us into an even greater disaster than Clinton, Obama, Richardson, or Dodd would cause.

These people have to be stopped or made to understand reality. And since the latter is virtually impossible for well-meaning, hopeful liberals then we must work towards the former.

Say it ain’t so, “Thoughtless” Joe

by Jeff OBryant

According to this NewsMax piece, Joe Biden blames Republicans for the shooting at Virginia Tech.

“I would argue, since 1994 with the Gingrich revolution, just take a look at Iraq, Venezuela, Katrina, what’s gone down at Virginia Tech, Darfur, Imus. Take a look. This didn’t happen accidentally, all these things,” he said.

Of course, all the terrible things happening in our country could possible be a result of the extreme extent Liberals have gone to remove God from our schools and other public venues. Perhaps all the terrible things are because liberal programs have rotted out the moral foundation our nation once stood firm on. Perhaps the presidency of Bill Clinton, who allowed millions to die in the Rwanda genocide, has shown other genocidal monsters that the United States is toothless when it comes to helping those in need.

No, Joe- you’re mistaken. Most of our troubles lay at the feet of liberals, not conservatives.
